This beautiful little bantam hen, named "Banty Mom", currently resides at Lollypop Farm, Greater Rochester Humane Society's farm animal shelter.

When I saw the photo of this little Mille Fleur d'Uccles, with her sweet face and feathered feet,  I could almost see her right here in our home.

I contacted the shelter yesterday afternoon, submitted my adoption application, asked my friend Celeste to provide a letter of recommendation, and waited.

This morning Joanna, the Farm Manager, got in touch and said she had approved me to adopt. Unfortunately, someone else already had an appointment to see Banty Mom (and will no doubt adopt her!), but it turns out "Mom" has several eight-month-old chicks.

So it looks like it's time for a ROAD TRIP to Rochester to bring home two little hens and make them part of our family.

Sincere thanks to Celeste for her very kind letter to Lollypop Farm!

And Merry Christmas to all!

Eleven years ago, Ollie came into our lives as a hatchling. Six months ago, he left us after a lifetime of sweetness, joy, and charming antics. It's time to fill the house with chortling, clucking, and chirping again.
